You will continue towards the fertile Ngorongoro highlands where wheat and corn are grown by the Iraqw people. Your day 4 of the safari is set aside for a full day game drive in the Serengeti including a picnic lunch. The Serengeti is truly spectacular, it is famous for its vast, open grasslands which allow for excellent sightings of wildlife. The park is Tanzania’s oldest national park and it is also one of the oldest ecosystems on Earth. Its climate and vegetation have remained largely untouched for millions of years. Whilst the Serengeti boasts abundant wildlife, it is perhaps best known for the annual Wildebeest migration. Vast numbers of wildebeest, accompanied by large numbers of zebra and antelopes move in an annual pattern, constantly seeking fresh grazing. The precise location and timing of the migration are entirely dependent upon the rainfall patterns each year. After your game drive, you will return to your accommodation for a hearty dinner and relaxation under the stars.
After delighting on your breakfast, you will proceed for a Cultural Encounter with the Maasai Community living near the park for a rich encounter which will give you the definition of a true African Culture. For the bird lovers, Serengeti National Park also offers bird species like the Grey-Breasted spur fowl, Fischer’s lovebird, Rufous-tailed weaver, Usambiro barbet, Grey-crested helmet-shrike, Kori Bustard, Red-capped robin-chat, Secretary bird among others since the bird checklist within the park is over 500 species.
Your day 6 of the Safari will start with a lovely breakfast and thereafter you will transfer to Ngorongoro Crater which is about 4 hours from Serengeti National Park. When you first see Ngorongoro Crater, it looks like a forgotten world. Concealed by the steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness including sweeping savannah, pockets of acacia woodland, glistening lakes and swamps. The Ngorongoro Crater was created when a large Volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago.
The drive down into the Crater is an adventure itself and when you reach the Crater floor, you will quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and more than 500 bird species. The Crater provides you with the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands. After a full afternoon inside the Crater, you will head to your accommodation for dinner as well as an overnight.
Day 7 of the 10 Days Tanzania Safari & Cultural Activity in Kilimanjaro Region will start with a relaxed breakfast and you will thereafter go on a guided walk with an armed ranger guide along the top of the Crater wall. This part of the Crater is very beautiful and densely forested with Tropical trees, plants and creepers. This walk will take you along the picturesque rim offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape and various wildlife species. Later you will have a mouth-watering lunch and transfer to Lake Manyara National Park where you will have your dinner as well as an overnight.
After your lovely breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and go for a full day exploration of Lake Manyara National Park with your packed lunch. Manyara, a relatively small but diverse park 120km west of Arusha, is so named for the shallow salt lake that occupies a good 70% of the park’s lands. Flooding and drying seasonally, this soda lake is home to thousands of flamingos and over 500 other bird species. On our exploration of the park, we shall see monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants and with some luck, we shall also see lions lounging in the trees. The park is known for its diverse landscapes, not only open grassy plains but also primate-filled woodlands and baobab dotted cliffs. After our full day in the park, we will drive to Arusha for your dinner as well as an overnight.
In the early morning on day 9, you will leave your accommodation in Arusha and drive to Materuni village in the Kilimanjaro region for a wonderful coffee tour. You will learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and further processed. You will also be invited to help with the grinding of the coffee, which is traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances – a fun way to immerse yourself in the local culture. If the weather is clear, you will also be able to see the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. After your day in Materuni, you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner and an overnight.
